Rick, you're right. I didn't pick up on that she was talking about just her daughter. My concern is that some parents (I'm not referring to anyone specific here, just talking in general, which is how I try to keep my responses to) think that a CI is a cure-all. I am absolutely not opposed to a CI - I was even looking into this for myself last fall. I could launch into a long discussion here about how deaf children learn things such as speech, (whether aided, or with a CI, or with nothing) but I won't because it really varies for everyone. I just get the feeling that some parents think their kids will turn into nothing if they don't get a CI, and that doesn't have to be the case. Whether they get a HA, or a CI, or work to learn sign, or work with a speech therapist (you all can choose what you want to go with), ultimately I think the end result requires WORK.
