The pressure on a deaf child to become hearing from the environment when people realize it's implanted can be huge. Some deaf adults have reported that their families have stopped using sign language after they was implanted. The deaf adult had to explain their family that CI was not a "cure", but still some family members tries to keep on talking. You perhaps haven't experienced that, but it does happen.
Of course, we can't blame the CI itself. It's not guns that kills, but the finger that pulls the trigger.
