Even though I have faced these tough decisions in the past, I never use the words, "I know how you feel" when talking to people who are making similar decisions. I may use the words "I sympathize or I empathize," but I don't think one can actually know exactly how another feels when faced with tough choices. Each person's situation is unique in its own way, eliminating the ability to know exactly how the other feels.
