If you have a community college nearby you should look for ASL classes, that's how I started learning! I took ASL 1 when I was 17 and just fell in love with the language, culture, and people. If you're not able to take a class, maybe look online at websites like lifeprint.com that have beginner lessons? The language is so different than English, it has it's own rules and grammar, I can't imagine trying to learn without the help of a teacher.
