Sony Online Debuts All Access Service

News

Next week, the publisher will start offering a unified monthly pricing option of $21.99 that will give players access to games published by Sony Online, which doesn't include Star Wars Galaxies.

Sony Online Entertainment has announced an all-in-one monthly subscription option called All Access. The $21.99 monthly fee for All Access will include subscriptions to all of the online games that Sony Online publishes, including EverQuest, PlanetSide, EverQuest Online Adventures, the Station Pass, and the upcoming EverQuest II, which is scheduled for the fall. Sony Online's premium games normally have subscription fees of $12.99 or $9.99 each. Once the All Access offer begins next week, it will let participating players to have one account for all the games.

"We have grown our business to the point where our fans have several different types of gaming options available to them and we want players to be able to experience everything we have to offer," said John Smedley, president of Sony Online Entertainment. "The SOE All Access subscription provides an easy, cost-effective way for an SOE fan to play all of our games. Once again, Sony Online is setting a precedent that will affect the online gaming entertainment industry on a global scale."

All Access service will not include games not directly published by Sony Online, like LucasArt's Star Wars Galaxies, or versions of Sony Online games published outside of North America.

Planetside has completely copied Halo...i aint getting one

I would love to play online games on Xbox, but since they only invented a voice-only communicator on Xbox live, i don't always understand ppl without reading their lips so i just hope someday they would invent a keyboard to along with it, just like they use it in chat rooms and stuff like that...

if that ever happens, i'll try to beat your ass online! :D

I knew this was happening. By the way, if you want to get Xbox and Xbox LIve.

You better get it NOW because I think the offer for Xbox Live is up in June.

:o Everyday, I get dumb and dumber lol my misunderstooding.. my friend said "I think you're confusing yourself here... This news has to do with SOE (Sony Online Entertainment), which has nothing to do with SCEA (Sony Computer Entertainment America). The only PS2 game SOE has a hand in right now is EverQuest: Online Adventures, so this news doesn't apply to anything else on the system.

Besides, this is far from a bad thing. It's offering you the choice to pay a 10$ fee for each game you play, or a 21$ fee to play them all. If you're playing 3 or more SOE games, you save at least 10$ a month - hardly bad news at all... Well, outside the fact that almost every game SOE has a hand in blows, but hey, that's beside the point."
