This is a sort of own sonnet that I wrote, with Shakespeare's "Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?" as inspiration.
(By the way: English is not my mother-tongue :p)

Shall I describe now when I see your face?
On Earth there's never been, oh, such a place
Where I am free, whether near or far
You capture me, wherever then you are.
I cannot think of things that I should do
Because it's often that I dream of you;
I even sit beside my window tight
To gaze upon the drunken depths of night.
But ere the curtains and my eyes are close
I fall asleep, like [a] softly blooming rose;
And while our thoughts do fill the sighing air
The cause is swift: the moment that we share.
Thus stronger grows desire until we meet
And time won't pass a heart's so loving beat.

A very nice presentation, including the rules...a 14 line Shakespearean work with a formal rhyming scheme.

Got any more of those?

Edited to say that I am going back to look at it again....to enjoy it.....

Thanks for your positive comments.

@Tousi: This is the only sonnet I tried to write. Actually, I don't read much sonnets, I also find them too restrictive for writing poetry. Besides, my first language is Dutch... So americans/englishmen can do it far better than me :)

Very nice poetry!
Keep up the good work, Julie°! ;)

Oh wow, I love this poem. You did a great job!!! I would love to try that sometimes. I love Shakespear and Walt Whitman.

Walt Whitman? Never heard of him before! I'm going to look him up.
And thanks for your compliments!

Walt Whitman is excellent poet, but I don't think he ever writes sonnets like William Shakespear. You can check out Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass. It is worth reading and to treasure it. I do read his book from time to time and think...

I write over 40 poems :D I did write one from a song I truly love in my own words once...I have a small bookcase in the hallway full of many books from many poets. Even some from 1800's, 1900's I treasure it with special care since they are so antique. Those books are pretty small and fraigle, you have to be careful not to let the pages fall apart, it is how old they are. Those books are in excellent condition in time and age :D

Ohh, that's fantastic...
I always wanted to buy an authentic poetry book of lord Byron...
I've already been searching on eBay but I don't like to buy online.

If you want to, you can start a thread with your own poetry - I would enjoy it very much.

(And I think I'll read some poems of Walt Whitman..)

Sometimes if you ever get lucky, go to flea markets, you may find it...It is very rare...

I already did submit my poetry in this creative writing thread. You will have to find it haha...it goes way back like 2007 or 2008, I think...

To save all the trouble finding it, I think you can click "see all restless_heart posts" in my profile. I am not sure if you still can do that... I remember submitting Standing before the Sunrise, and Coweb of a Memory...

Well, I'm living in Belgium, Flanders - so the chance that I'll find an authentic poetry book of 1815 is reduced to zero percent :p

I think I might have more chance if I were going to live in England, but of course...That'll be for later, maybe.

P.S.: I found your thread.
