A mother is accused of celebrating her 25th birthday in a bar while her 5-year-old son waited outside in a car in 80-degree heat.
Keverly L. Hampton, a Minneapolis woman who gave a Faribault, Minn., address when she was booked into jail early Friday, is accused of telling the boy to stay in the car and not talk to anyone, said a criminal complaint filed today in Hennepin County District Court.

The boy had been in Hampton's sports-utility vehicle outside Gabby's Saloon for at least 20 minutes before police were told of the child. A passerby had seen him sitting on the front center console. For relief, the windows were down about half an inch, said the complaint.

Police have said that he was "dripping with sweat and drinking water" when an officer let him out of the unlocked SUV.

Police Capt. Rich Stanek said Friday that the boy was placed in protective custody.

Hampton is charged with neglect of a child and is scheduled to maker her first court appearance Tuesday.

County Attorney Amy Klobuchar said it was fortunate that the boy wasn't physically harmed.

"A parent leaving her child alone in a hot car while she does drinking is the height of irresponsibility," she said. "We expect parents to act responsibly and put their child's well-being first."

I saw that newspaper.. I was totally fumed.. I could NOT leave kids in the car with that dang heats.. not even few seconds..


I hope the mother deserved the sentences! she should have drop off babysitting so she can go party.. if she cant find babysitting.. then dont party till you find one.. (smh)
 
My mom wouldn't leave my nephews and neieces in car, and if I take them on bus, I will never leave them on bus. We rarely take them to somewhere, sometimes go to store. One time my sister and I took our nephews on bus to Mall of America- thank god they was well behaved kids.
 
Dam, That wasnt very smart thing for the mother to do...wonder where the father was ? Hope the judge throws the book at her - VERY HARD.

I´m glad that police do something because it´s child´s safety.
 
Wish police officers should have break her SUV windows instead of telling the kid to unlock the doors....

but it could affect child´s face if police break car window to splash window on his face?
 
Yeah that was real dumb of the mother to be out partying in a bar and leaving her child in the vechile. Everyone knows that the heat doubles up inside the car even if the windows are rolled down a little bit. It just makes me sick to see that it is really an inhumane thing to do.
 
Dumb mom doing that. I would never a child like that. I also would report to the police if I see a child in the car like that. I did once back in 1996. Duh mom, the child/children come first before you. Wake up!!! HYAY!!!

If that was the case of a police officer having to break the window to rescue a child that is locked in the vehicle on a sweltering hot day, The police would try or to direct the child to cover his/her face and move away from the window when the police's going to break it.
 
oh man i cant believe that.. i am mad abt this.. i wont let my god daughter in car with heat awful!
 
If today's my birthday (not until November 23, however) and I have a 5-year old child, I won't go to a bar. Instead, I'd go and take a child with me to a family dinner at a house and party with my family and my child.

That would make a child happy. All it takes is education and no offense to her, but she should know better than that.

(Again, like I said in paranthesis, I mentioned November 23 as my birthdate.)
 
Give me the mother and then I will slap on her face for leaving her son in the car all by himself in the heat :mad:
I feel sick in my stomach whenever I see no good parents like this mother.
 
How would the mother feels if someone locked her up in the trunk when it's hot outside? believe me she wouldn't like it for one second, then image what her son is feeling at that moment? sounds like she cares more about herself cause it happen to be her birthday? how come she isn't celebrating her birthday with her son? is it cause drinking is more important?..., grr parents like that just turnsssss me off... :pissed:
 
What an IDIOT she is!! Either take him to somewhere that is child friendly places or leave him with a sitter! UGH! What's wrong with her stupid HEAD? :ugh2:

Yea! You have a really brillant idea. Let's go to lock her up in the car on a hot day and then she will see how it feels! :mad:
 
damn i cant believe the mother left the boy in car while she party at bar for her bday?? thats stupid!!! she should have left the boy with babysitter then no plm she can go party?? NO EXCUSE!
