On one hand I can see the purpose of it... to keep guns out of the hands of those who are identified as mentally ill. It's another avenue since if I am not mistaken gun sales are not permitted if a background check returns that the person has a history of mental illness. So.. why not? On the other it may affect people who likely doesn't fit the criteria but will still get nailed anyway.
