I had 2 bikes that would be an easy $200-250 during peak biking season. I had them up for sale for $180 as I know bikes don't sell well in winter. I offered one of my customers $150 for both if he would buy them on President Day. He said he will get back to me with re-negotiated price. I told him that $150 was for today only. I'll just sell them for regular price.

I had other bike that would be $60-80 during peak biking season. I had it at $40 as for same reason as above. Someone was interested. He was maybe 10 miles away. He asked me to deliver. I said I would deliver if he wanted to pay for gas. He wasn't interested in paying for my gas so I told him that I changed my mind. You don't need it.

You could have said, " the shipping fee costs 10 bucks to delievery" dont say " gas"

Wait, didn't we already have this discussion before?

It is the art of bargaining...everyone wants to do what they can to get something for nothing. Even if you post something for less than what it is worth, there will always be someone trying to lowball you even more.

I've put stuff on CL for free, and even had a few ask me to deliver the free item to them...some were an hour away. People don't care about inconveniencing you.

The person that really wants the item will show up and pay a fair price. The others want to play a game.

I just gave away a boat the other day doing this. In a mere matter of minutes... I got told by several people that I would be responsible for bringing the boat to them. I mean... the ad was like this... FREE BOAT! NO TITLE! FLAT TIRES!

Dumbasses. I got like 50 replies in under an hour.

Tell him to ride bike back, why are you buying bike for??? Deliver yourself!

Ok, I know it's a bad line.....

Well, to me you said clearly:

I said I would deliver if he wanted to pay for gas.
he said no.
In this case, you should ask - do you still want the bike cos I am not delivering?

But you have no right deciding for the client. you ask first.

simple.

Fuzzy

For that $40 bike, the person was too lazy to pay for gas cost of me to deliver it 10 miles. He asked me to do it. Well, I was upset because I offered it at a good price and yet, he wanted me to take care of gas cost.

I decided to put it on craigslist again. This time for $55 just because I wanted more money now. Nice weather can do that to me. I got it sold for $55 and the person came to pick it up.

Well, I just thought I would brag a little bit.
