my dad decided to get me a new hearing aid. I'm getting the Phonak Naida. And i'm finally getting a different color this time. The color is called Blue Moon. Which is Black and a shiny blue.

And i'm getting my new hearing aid on the august 24th! I'm so excited for it. I've been having a hard time (a REALLY HARD TIME) hearing through my hearing aid that i have now. I've been doing a lot of "huhs" and "what" lately. And Not being able to hear very well in band. And i was pretty much depending on my cochlear implant. I gave up with the hearing aid i have now. So my dad and I went to see my audiologist who worked with me for about 13 years (he's like a grandpa to me) said that Naida is one of the latest and most popular phonak hearing aids this year. And Naida was released since january 2009. Naida has Bluetooth in it, its very wireless for ipods, cell phones, FM systems, etc. The naida hearing aids work on Cochlear implant batteries. which i think are 625s. And they're really not that expensive from what i heard. Only about 2,300. My audiologist thought it would be more expensive since it's brand new and really popular. But guess not. The Naida can help you hear the "SH" and "CH" and "S" sounds. And you can hear the differences between the music notes and higher octaves.

for more information about this hearing aid check out phonak's website for Naida: Naída Phonak - Adult

i'm super excited!

Do you think the Naida HA will give you better hearing than the CI? You need residual hearing at 1500Hz minimum to benefit from transposition. Still, it has lots of gain in the low and mid frequencies and is way better than my old HA. Be sure your audiologist correctly programs the HA with max gains. My speech went up 20% when I got my HAs reprogrammed. Hope this helps.

My current hearing i have now is a Phonak MicroPower V. And i have had it for about 3-4 years and ever since i started doing winter drumline/marching band drumline, I have been having a tough time hearing through my right ear due to my hearing aid. And my dad thought that my ear needs to be cleaned. But instead my dad saw the broochure for Naida. And my dad had enough money to buy it for me. My audiologist told me and my dad that this hearing aid would be perfect for me to hear things clearly and would be good for me to use in Band. I was on the phonak Naida website and i was listening to the difference in the hearing aids with the programs that naida had in the hearing aids. ANd i'm pretty sure that it would help me. My cochlear implant on the audiogram is in the area where a normal person can hear. But my hearing aid, not really. But with my hearing aid and cochlear implant together its pretty much like a normal hearing person. But since i'm having a hard time hearing through my right ear, i have been getting so fustrated in band i can barely understand a thing. And with the struggle to try and understand everybody of what they're trying to tell me, i get worn out pretty quickly. But I use the samples of the programs on the phonak, i can totally hear the difference between what i have now and what i will have later. And i'm super excited for it.

The first thing i'm going to do is that i'm gonna have my section leader or my pit technican from the band play the marimba for me while i'm in front of it but facing away and see if i can hear the highest notes possible and hear the difference of what i'm doing wrong. I can barely sleep because i can't wait for my new hearing aid. I want it really bad now.

If i can try to get my audiogram from my hearing aid side from my dad (he has a bunch of my audiograms) maybe you can suggest what i need. Because i can't read audiograms very well. My cochlear implant audiologist tried explaining it to me but i kind of understood. but i need more explaining.

I will be glad to be of assistance. Are you able to understand alot of speech with CI? Does it help if people talk on your CI side instead of HA side? I was also excited when I got the new HAs! You will love them! See if you can get all audiograms of HA, CI, unaided. Ill be able to explain.

I can understand speech on my CI side. But if i took of my CI i can't understand speech on my HA (my CI is on my left side and my HA is on my right side) When people talk to me it's easier for me to have them talk in front of me straight ahead. I'm on the left side in order of being in the pit. There's 4 marimbas, 4 vibes and one glock in the pit and the synth is in the back and the 2 rack players are next to the vibes. let me explain what position i am in in the pit and why that effected my hard time to understand.

the 4 marimbas are in line first. then theres 2 vibes next to the end of the marimbas. then theres another 2 vibes behind the front vibes. The glock is in the middle of the behind 2 vibes. and theres a synthesizer behind the glock. Theres also 2 rack players where they are next to the front vibes. I am the left side marimba. And my implant is on the left and my hearing aid is on the right. My section leader is on the right side. So it makes it harder for me to hear because of my hearing aid.

My section leader wants me to be moved to the right side due to my implant. but my pit technican said that i didn't need to move and that i can look in often to see where we are at. Which is true. Most days i will be able to understand alot in speech. And most days i won't be able to understand alot in speech.

i'll check back. i need to go to sleep. I have 1-9pm marching band rehearsal later.

Ooo! Thats so awesome! I hope your hearing aid would help you to hear better. :)

Just be warned, the Naidas do take a LOT of time to get used to, and take a lot of adjusting appointments. So don't give up when the Naida isn't programmed right the first few times. I tried the Naida last year for about 3 months, and I gave up on it due to the amount of problems I was having with the Naida. So I hope you have way better luck with the Naida, and getting it to work right for you. There are several other users here that wear Naidas that can give you suggestions of what sort of adjustments to consider if something isn't right. :)

Not true. I have no residual hearing at 1500 and I benefit a ton from the transposition.

haha my audiologist was telling me that i may not hear immediate results from the Naida. But it will take several weeks for my brain to process it all and get used to the new programs on the hearing aid.

I think i'll get used to it though. I'm pretty sure that the Naida will help me out. It wouldn't be a problem for me and my dad to set up appointments for my hearing aid.

I wish you the best of luck with the Naida! Really. Better luck than I had haha. :)

CDMeggers--
Do you still have the Phonak Naida? If so, what's the update with it? I've been posting comments/questions on the Phonak Naida thread. I haven't gotten the results I want with the Naida yet and I've gone for adjustments I think about 5 times so far. It's frustrating. I do believe some audiologists are not adept with the software that comes with the Naida which makes it difficult to program and fine tune it to clients' hearing needs.

I gave it back after the 3 month trial, I decided it wasn't worth the trouble and frustrations and went back to my Phonak Supero.

I hope that the Phonak Naida will help me alot more. because i currently have the Phonak MicroPower V. And i'm having a really tough time with it so far for the past 2-4 weeks. and it's been kind of depressing me because i'm really trying hard in the band to listen and try to hear what instructions they are informing me in the music and i hate having my friends repeat for them and having them fustrated. And sometimes i end up crying at the end of the day because of my hearing aid NOT helping me at all. And i'm praying that once the naida arrives, it would be better for me. I cannot take another day with the MicroPower V. If i keep using it, i'll keep getting fustrated even more and end up being upset.

I understand how you are feeling. I hope the Phonak Naida works for you! I am currently 'testing' it and have gone to the audiologist at least 5 times since July 16th for adjustments. I have my next appointment this Friday. Once you get the Naidas, check out the Naida thread. It might help you feel your way around as to what adjustments you might want/need. To be honest, I do not know if I will end up keeping the Naida's. Check back in a little over a week, I probably will have made a decision by then and post my news on the Naida thread.
