Slipstreaming Windows

I never had problem with slipstreaming SP2 to XP Pro and burned it to CD. What I did was using different method on this link.

I planned to Slipstream SP3 on XP SP2 soon. I already have SP3 cdrom that I dl in the past.

Slipstreaming Windows XP Service Pack 3 and Create Bootable CD - HelpWithWindows.com

So wish you luck and hope you won't be making a "coasters"

Reminder: few PC may not work with SP3, I finally got hit just ONE PC crashed after updating it to SP3 via CDrom, it's a hardware issue that would not work with SP3 for some reason and I had to go safe mode and uninstall SP3 grrr!! Many other PC and laptop I had NEVER encounter plm.

I just wonder if there are possible way to extract the most recent update from M$ before it kiss XP goodbye? I tried to find file that have all its updates in them downloaded and installed by M$ security update???

I may have to use Acronis Trueimage and back it up to DVD for my laptop for restoration purpose which already have SP3 unless there are way to extract files that downloaded by M$ security update.

Success! :fruit:

It works for me. I got SP3 slipstream into XP SP2 cd. I use Winsupersite.com methods.

FOLLOW INSTRUCTION CAREFULLY!!!

Download SP3 stand alone file from M$ and create two new folders in C:\ drive, xp and sp3. Then move SP3 stand alone file to sp3 folder. And Copy and paste all XP file from CDrom (unhide all file so you can include hidden files). Then do the command prompt:

cd \ [ENTER]
cd sp3 [ENTER]
windowsxp-kb936929-sp3-x86-enu.exe -x:c:\sp3 [ENTER]

It will unpack SP3 file and automatically create new i386 folder on C:\ drive

Next command:

cd i386 [ENTER]
cd update [ENTER]
update.exe /integrate:c:\xp [ENTER]

I got it working and slipstreamed SP3 into XP folder.

Be sure you use ISO Buster and extract microsoft.img into sp3 folder then run Nero's Burningrom (not Nero's Express) and follow instruction carefully and to open the .img file to save, on the bottom of file name, ".img" would not show up on sp3 folder so click and see drop down and choose all file " *.* " Bingo! you should see Microsoft.img and save it.

Last thing is Be sure the CD name before burning it to CD should be exactly the same as original CD so it'll boot up and installs XP without naming issue.

I've test ran XP SP3 cd on VMware and it work perfect!

Yup, you can do it by go to addon or update section.

I am not sure cuz it require .bat file to modify and add 3rd party softwares in one folder with strings in .bat so it can automatically installs 3rd party. I am not sure how they do it. You can google search. I am currently in hurry going out of town and maybe I can research when I get back.

You can always add folder and put in 3rd party files in as long as it's less than 700mb limit for CDrom. Few months ago, I had been working on friend's laptop and tried to add drivers along with his XP restoration file but failed to get it working cuz it's not a direct installation XP file that I would plan to use.

Like the first paragraph, After you slipstream, add file and drivers made for your PC or Laptop which is a time saver. I am not exactly sure if you can add driver files into i386 for hardware only for quicker job and less hassle. This part also require you to modify .bat file so Doz XP can follow what it needed to be installed automatically.

Few PC manufacturer add drivers and files in XP made for like HP, Acer, ect for quick and ease one job installation. If you have it, you can always research and compare their .bat file against actual 3rd party files or drivers that came with XP. If you got an idea how it work then try it.. Remmy, I sucks on programming .

Remember that Firefox, and many 3rd party softwares may get old in few month cuz of fequent updates. I always install recently updated 3rd party software after finished installing XP on PC and too me about half hour depending on how fast the PC can installs it.

Hmm.. wait.
The XP software being installed should have nothing to do with the licensing system, that's odd.

So basically what you did was slipstream SP3 to a counterfeit (pirate) XP cd copy with the updates?

lol, no Foxrac I am not a pirate, the CD disk of XP Pro was given to me from a retail computer repair shop. The CD i was given was a counterfeit.

I was just messing with you.

If repair shop give you a counterfeit, they're in trouble (report it to M$ and have shop technician license revoked). I can't give you details on how to crack it and it's not wroth it cuz If you do, you can do M$ updates and add M$ softwares from M$.com site like IE8, WMP11 ect without rebooting. then after you're done, reboot it. (If you reboot and download M$ software and WGA would check and failed and if you update security, it'll slap you with annoying "dent" next to clock.) If you decide to upgrade or add more M$ or get an update, you'll have to reformat hdd and do all over again.

So again, that's why I say I wouldn't give detals and not worth it!!

If you have a brand name PC like Dell, HP, Compaq, Emachine ect. It's cheaper to buy XP Restoration CD through company. A restoration CDrom for Doz XP cost between $19 to $30. You'll have to contact customer service (try live chat) and they'll be happy to give you a link to purchase Restoration CD specially for your model.

Another option,.... If any of your friend, relative or co worker happen to have broken PC with full licensed Windows XP OS CD (like one that purchased from store). You can always get it from them free or pay small fees and call M$ and tell them that you have CDrom from broken system and wanted to transfer "license" to your system. They'll happily do that for you in a way you "own" a copy of XP and have full access to updates, add-ons ect.. Simply give them Serial Key or if you don't have Serial key, read the print on the inner circle of CDrom (near the hole of CDrom). M$ can pull info and update it for ya and also They'll provide you a lost Serial key too. M$ are picky and they are making sure that you have legal copy of OS, that's why they ask you what's the print say on inner circle. If you got it, be prepare to have 1 or 2 hours of chat with M$ through relay and some paper writing (like writing down serial key or instruction on how to set new Serial key on OS)....

It worked for me when I had to retrieve a lost Serial key for M$ Word CDrom for my friend's system.

I got Windows XP SP2 Home Upgrade CD free from my friend. (must have Windows 98, ME, or 2K first installed then upgrade it to XP SP2). I haven't used that ever since and it's still in the package.

If your system is not name branded (home built), I dunno unless you want to PM me.

I have gave up, this is useless, cheating M$ is like cheating death. I swore after this, my next crash is what you did call "blue screen of death" then M$ is no more for me. I will likely go to Mac or my beloved Ubuntu. Right now it's surviving by treating it with care.

:rofl2: I love it what you say. Hate M$ and love Opensource!! Why don't you buy Ubuntu T-shirt and wear it at M$ turf. :rofl2:

Ubuntu T-Shirts & Clothing - CafePress

LINUX TUX. Linux t-shirts. Linux apparel : LINUX TUX STORE. Linux apparel with penguin Tux

M$ should have known that people slipstreaming Doz on their licensed copy of XP that M$ screw innocent people into thinking they're a pirate.

So that being say, there's no way to slipstreaming a licensed copy of XP. Slipstreaming might have been successful but the licensed copy is not. Only if I could find a way to make the webcam to work on my Ubuntu.
