My doctor told me today, she wants me to have a sleep study.

I'm a little reluctant!....Probably moreso embarrassed to have doctors watching me sleep!

The problem is, that most times when I awake, I don't feel I've even been asleep! And I do have a sleeping disorder (moving legs), so it's like my mind tries to sleep but my body won't let it.

1 or 2 nights in the hospital....would like some input from anyone that has had this done....so I will know what to expect!

I also "snore" at times! and pass gas, I'm sure! :laugh2:

Got a few weeks to make up my mind! Any input here? Thks!!

Sleep 2, the visionary sequel to Andy Warhol's cult classic. The stakes are higher than ever this time, the legs will not rest until dawn breaks. High above the action, the "doctors" lay in wait, watching for some sinister purpose. In a brief relief from the terrors of the last night, the victim barely notices the traumatic events that are destined to come again.

Gas. There will be gas.

Fakeedit: Do we have a lot of people with birds in their names or what?

Rockin' Robin - Since you mentioned that you have "moving legs" while you sleep, It is possible that you may have Restless Leg Syndrome?

Personally, I haven't got myself on a sleep study but my ex husband has done that. That is how he found out that he has Restless Leg Syndrome.

From what I have seen - They will hook you up to some sort of machine that is connected to your "head" to monitor the brain activity and also they will monitor your breathing activity.

It would not hurt to check it out, after all, sleep is vital for our health. You might be able to find the solution to your sleeping issue.

Ahh, don't think it's restless legs syndrome. I had that years ago!. Finally went away (I think). There are times when I toss and turn (not knowing it) and waking up with all the bedding on the floor, or my hair "sticking everywhere, which way"!....There is no way that I can say, "it's bedtime"!...I know that I'll lay there and re-hash the day's events, or wondering what is gonna happen "if this/or that" comes about.

I've got this sneaky feeling that it's "sleep anepa"...stopping breathing off and on. Then again, I've got a lot of responsibility at home and a lot of stress and at times feel overwhelmed with it all!

I don't take pills at all! Don't drink...but at times I've been tempted to!...Most nights I have to sing myself to sleep! Even then the lightest tap will jerk me awake!...I can tell if my sleeping disorder occured that night, when I awake and my legs are very sore. Moving all night long.

Maybe it's time to take the sleep study to find out really what's going on with me upstairs! HAHA. Thks for the input!

Heh, You're welcome and I understand what you are saying.

If it is the sleep apnea - It is possible that your body is not getting enough oxygen and for it not to be able to circulate.

Also, by eliminating the stress - It is definitely a big help. (Which I'm sure you are already aware of) :D

Either way, I wish you the best and good luck! I hope they will be able to find out what is going on with you. :)

its not bad. the worst part is sleeping in a strange bed and takes awhile to get to sleep. the attach wires to your head and last time i had one they put a thing under my nose to catch when you breath that way. its an EEG that records brain activity is what its called. they do have a camera in the room and record it too. last time i went in at 9pm. they hooked everything up and i went to sleep. they woke me up at 6am and took the stuff off and i went home. just make sure to bring something comfortable to sleep in.

I've never had a sleep study done, but my GP would like me to since I sometimes wake up feeling very tired. I also have difficulty breathing at night due to year round allergies. I don't know if a C-PAP machine could help me, but if I decide to have a sleep study done, I will ask them about it. Perhaps I'll look into doing this sometime over the summer.

Here is what to expect. They will put electrodes on to measure your brain wave activity during the period you are trying to sleep, and electrodes to measure your heart rate and respiration. They will then ask you to try and sleep.

The rooms in most sleep study clinics are not like regular hospital rooms. They are decorated to look more homey...kind of like a hotel room. You will have a private bathroom, and they will no doubt tell you to bring your own P.J.'s and a special blanket you use. The idea is to make the situation as natural as possible. But since you don't usually sleep with people watching you or with electrodes attached to you, it will not be as natural as home, and you will probably feel some anxiety at first.

I wish you good luck with the study. It isn't the most pleasant thing in the world, but neither is it the worst.

That was a spammer, LOL. They crop up from time to time and post stuff like that in all the threads.

My husband had one of those sleep studies cause he snored really loudly and would always be very groggy and feeling un-rested. We taped him snoring once so he could play it back later and hear it (since he wears HA's ) and he said it was sure loud. Then he fell asleep on couch (HA's still on) and he woke himself up because it was LOUD! He was also having trouble because he fell asleep at stoplights so that was no good.....so he had test and was diagnosed w/mild sleep apnea. Now he has the C-PAP machine and he says it does help a little, mostly he can tell if he's NOT been using it, that there's a difference in how he feels.

Good luck with your test, rockin'robin!

Thks very much!...See the doctor again in May (next month) and I'm gonna go for it!....A friend at Church will watch my boys for me until I come home...wish the hospital would let me take my doggie!...But I know that's wishful thinking. Will keep you posted on the outcome.
