FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SIGNMARK TO PERFORM IN ATLANTA
International Superstar and Deaf Hip-Hop Artist, Signmark, to Perform at Interpreter Conference
As Finland’s U.N. recognized Special Representative on Global Human Rights, Signmark is poised to bring communities together and promote the preservation of sign language through his upcoming “Silent Shout” performance on Thursday, July 21st, 2011 at 6:45PM at the Atrium Ballroom in the Marriott Marquis Hotel in downtown Atlanta. Signmark brings speakers and signers together in his hip-hop performances around the world. The performance is free and open to the public, and accessible to all audiences. Signmark will sign his lyrics in American Sign Language while his hearing “voice” band member will sing the lyrics for the hearing audience.
Deaf communities throughout the world are facing large human rights issues, from Italy’s recent attempt to remove Italian Sign Language as an official language, to sign languages being banned in schools. Signmark gives the Deaf and sign language communities a unifying voice. Through his music, he also introduces the non-signing public to sign language in a fun and interactive way.
The performance will be a part of the week-long Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID -) Conference that will be occurring in the Marriott Marquis from July 17th-22nd, 2011. The performance will occur immediately following a community forum panel discussion (titled “Exploring our Shifting Borders”) run by the Interpreters with Deaf Parents (Interpreters with Deaf Parents) and the Deaf Caucus (https://www.facebook.com/groups/8351530374). One of the main topics will be preserving the “languaculture” of the Deaf community. Signmark will also participate in this panel, along with several other prominent members of the Deaf and Interpreting communities. The panel discussion will occur from 2:30PM until 6:30PM and is open to anyone interested in the issues at hand.
Signmark will be available for interviews, interpreters will be provided for press. Learn more about Signmark at: Signmark - the Official site | Bio
