I have this passion for learning sign language. My trouble is that I have a hard time signing the letter Y. I broke my pinky a few years ago and I had to "buddy tape" my ring finger and my pinky which now doesn't allow the two fingers to go separate directions without force. Would a certain way to stretch them help? What about talking to a physical therapist or something? Does anyone have suggestions?

Physical therapist is probably your best option. I don't know any sign language exercises beyond simply loosening your wrists and fingers up before signing.

what about other hand?
can't you train your other hand for the alphabet?
:dunno:

That's a good idea...but it's the same as writing...we tend to use the one we're most comfortable using. But a good idea...I hadn't thought of that.

I realize that - about using right-left hand

but then again, I tried signing with left hand (I am a 'righty') before I posted and I think
after a hard work and a bit of time you do can achieve decent fluidity of movement... at least I hope so.

I alternate between my left hand and my right hand when finger spelling. I don't switch in the middle of a sentence or a word. But from time to time I will finger spell with my left hand (I'm a rightie). Back when I was learning ASL. My right hand would get tired so I would practice with my left for a while. Also sometimes practiced both as the same time.
