If Sign Writing was introduced to ASL only students, Do you think would make it harder for them to learn written English : Like translating one written form to another.

Do you think it will help them study? Like when I want to look up something, I go get a book from my bookshelf and just study it.

I thought it had been tried and was so cumbersome and ineffective it was abandoned.

I guess we need more visual picture books. Everytime i go to barnes and noble, I keep looking for books with pictures. If it is about gardening and no pictures, forget it.

same with cookbooks.

I had to learn the Sign Writing system. Nah. It doesn't really help in that regard. :thumbd:

It depends on what you're trying to do...are you teaching a deaf child who uses ASL? If so, then don't dumb it down with picture books...use English and read it in ASL. The child will see both languages at the same time...

I prefer the children become fluent in English literacy along with ASL literacy. I dont support the ASL-only philosophy.

I was thinking more of helping them learn English.

There's nothing wrong with picture books. And I don't mean picture ONLY books... just books with a lot of pictures. I wanted to learn stuffs but books don't show me examples. <--- and this is coming from oral only person. i know many other deaf people feel the same way.

Picture books are good for babies and toddlers but for older kids, I would rather them be reading the print.
