Sign Language vs. Oralism

Hi everyone I am writing a paper for my college class on Sign Language vs. Oralism. I would really appriciate your opinions and experiences on these subjects. Should deaf people learn how to speak or should hearing people learn how to sign? Should schools use a Total Communication, Sign Language or Oral communication approaches?
Thanks for your help and I look forward to reading everyones opinions and experiences.
