Hi Everyone,

My name is Kyle Stevens and I work for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in Milwaukee Wisconsin. I just registered here and am excited because I work in the School of Education and we made a Super Bowl Commercial using Sign Language for a Super Bowl Commercial Contest for CBS 58 in Milwaukee and we are in the finals! It depends on votes to decide the winner and if we do win we get broadcast in the Super Bowl I work consistently with the Deaf Community and we wanted to create a commercial that spread the word about ASL.

If anyone is interested, the Super Bowl is tomorrow and the voting is neck and neck. You can vote here for the "Sign Language" Commercial:

Below is a news release giving more info, and you can vote with more than one email. It has been an exciting week in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for me and some of our ASL/Interpreter Training people as we are spreading the word.

We appreciate any support we can get because it would be great to reach a mass audience with our message.

Thanks again for reading and hoping you do vote

UWM commercial finalist in Channel 58 contest

The Super Bowl contest invited viewers to submit a 30-second commercial themed on CBS 58’s “Just 10 Minutes” newscasts. The School of Education’s entry features staff and students from the Interpreter Training Program, American Sign Language (ASL) Studies Program and ASL Living Learning Community signing the “Just 10 Minutes” theme song.

Kyle Stevens, School of Education writer, photographer and multimedia expert, produced the entry in collaboration with Heather Ford, adviser and sign language interpreter in the Exceptional Education Department. Ford first heard about the CBS 58 contest from Robert Longwell-Grice, director of the school’s Department of Academic Services. After learning more about the contest, Ford started organizing staff and students in the School of Education to create the commercial.

“UWM is unique in that we are the only university in Wisconsin with a variety of options for learning ASL,” says Ford. “This contest was a fun experience because it allowed me to be creative in getting a diverse group of students together so that they could have fun with ASL too. The experience of shooting a commercial was exciting enough, but this became even more exciting now that we are finalists.

“Until you try, you never know what can happen. I believe we’ll get the votes we need to be aired for the spot on Super Bowl Sunday.”
