Would you - or have you done so already - use your hearing aids as a topic for "show and tell" at school, and what sort of reaction did you get, if you have done it already?

I was so ashamed of them growing up. I did everything I could do to hide them by refusing to put my hair in a ponytail so I know I would refuse to use them for "show and tell."

Ya, I am curious if others have done that. It is a good question. :)

I did not get my first ha until 10, so show and tell time was over by then. All I remember about show and tell is I always brought in things I should not have.

All through school I wore my hair short. It did not bother me at all. I just named them - good and bad. Most people liked to hear the feedback and it drove the teachers crazy.

My son was encouraged to do so when he was in a mainstream environment in kindergarten and first grade. Once the hearing kid's curiosity was satisfied, they never gave his HAs another thought.

hmm... I think I did a show and tell with an old FM system in preschool, but I have no memories of it. I just remember a picture where I seem to be demonstrating my FM system. But in 9th grade I gave a speech on the history of hearing aids, and in 12th grade, the senior groups all did the problem that I created on cochlear implants (this was my way of educating others on deafness and of ways to help the deaf with CI's or hearing aids, etc.). And when I got my purple hearing aids in 3rd grade, I showed them off (but not show and tell) just because I was proud of them.

If only knew what I know now, I would have did a show and tell on my hearing aids and saved myself from endless bullying about them in the future. I guess in my child's mind, I must have had the logic...the less it is talked about, the less problems. Guess not.
