It would apply to some countries which use pennies as part of their money.

I find it real unnecessary to carry pennies in your pockets.

During my trip to Australia, I bought some stuffs as I gave some cashes to the cashier. I noticed that I did not get any penny so I asked my good Aussie friend what was going on. She told me that we did not use pennies and I told her that I liked it very much!

i have too many pennies everywhere in the house, at my work, in my purse and out on the driveway.

It's kinda hard to take a currency out of circulation bills are one thing but pennies and nickles...i doubt we'd get rid of them

You will be amazed how it adds up even if its a few bucks.

I still hold tight to the saying: "a penny saved, is a penny earned."

They add up fast!...We've got a big plastic coke bottle almost full of 'em!....and I keep adding to it, so do the boys!....

Take them down to the grocery store, they have a machine that counts them and gives you the $$ back, for a small fee...Believe it's called "Coin Star" or something like that.....or, get some penny wrappers and roll them up, 50 cents at a time.

You never know!....There might be a time when you're "flat broke"...and the pennies would come in handy! And I don't believe in throwing $$ away.

agreed..you wouldn't believe the amt ppl save up from putting their spare change in a jar and rolling it all when its full and bringing it in to the bank...like some ppl bring in at least a hundred bucks..

Ha, funny. I remember a similar story many years ago. A guy wheeled a grocery cart into an IRS building, loaded to the brim with pennies to pay his taxes with.

I love saving them and taking the to the bank. I go to a bank where you don't even have to roll them! Just dump them and the machine counts them! I usually get a couple hundred bucks a year due to pennys!:D

I save change too.....But that is not the point, It costs more than a penny to make a penny. Smae with a nickle. I read last week we lose $22 million a yaear producing pennies and nickles. That adds up too......lol

It's actually extremely easy........You stop producing them and they weed themselves out as they are deposited

ya but there are MUCH more pennies then bills. It would take a VERY long time to get rid of them and not to mention ppl aren't gonna round up everything to the nearest 10 cents thats stupid so..no this isn't gonna happen anytime soon. There's also a lot of work to take stuff out of circulation they don't just say POOF its done..i work at a bank so I know there's a lot more to it than just saying it's out of circulation and thats that....unless you work at a bank or the mint and know more than I do on the subject?

I do wish things would cost .01 so I can actually use pennies.

Rounding up is likely.....It happens many places already. It would take years to get pennies out of circulation.....the most important thing is to stop producing them

What's about 25¢, 10¢, and 5¢?

They are useful, same as euro have coins that are valuable. Europeans love 1 euro coin, it is very useful. If we stop pennies, then there will be no 1.99 or .52 cents or something like that. I hate when I see product that sells $5 and tax comes up like $5.12. I use credit card to avoid getting PENNIES in a return. I don't mind to keep 5 cents, 10 cents, 25 cents to save for street parking meter. Street parking meter won't accept pennies, and even soda machines. :hmm:
