Just because he doesn't "want to" be a part of the child's life he is still responsible for that child's life and well-being.
In life, as adults, we often have to do things we don't "want to" do. That's part of being a responsible adult.
If the man doesn't want adult responsibilities then he shouldn't play adult games--that is, keep it zipped.
