Just wanted to see what everybody thinks;

I currently have 2 jobs which I'm very thankful for. However I sometimes do and wonder if I should feel guilty for having 2 jobs when others are losing their jobs?

Just curious of other views regarding that.

I don't think you should feel guilty. You need to support yourself. My husband always had two jobs when our kids were small since we needed the money.

For an analogy, I think it would be like feeling guilty you are healthy since some other people have cancer. It is not logical.

Never feel guilty for taking care of your needs.

Right, everyone echoes my thoughts.

Just like you should not feel guilty for having sight when I don't. I know it is offtopic here.

You have to take care of yourself. This is the time and place during the economy when you need to worry about yourself. Yes, sounds tough but it's pretty much each person for themselves in this economy.

 You're very sweet to think of others and that's a rarity these days.

nah... I'm currently looking for another job... additional 2 or 3 maybe... depending. The job I have now isn't enough as it is only a part time.... It's a trying time these days.

Husband and I were talking about this same question recently. Because he had lost his job for about a year and 1/2 and recently became employed again but was just told that everybody in the <small> company taking a 10% pay cut, I applied for a job at an animal shelter and also will be starting one as a dog trainer somewhere else. He and I were discussing about the degree to which I/we really need to income from what I will do <as he has full-time job> vs. someone who has no other or very little other means of income and attempts for the shelter job, but I already have it <if I get it>. With all the medical bills from when I broke my arm and we had no insurance, and other things, my going for both jobs seemed necessary. But it is hard times for everyone. My mom may lose her job. It seems like in the last couple of years it's just been one thing at a time for us......I am very grateful my husband was able to finally get his job.

You should feel guilty because you like M*A*S*H and other people don't.

I asked my mom about getting a 2nd job since she is done with raising kids and has no hubby so she could pay off her debts faster but she refuses to cuz she doesnt want to take any jobs away from people who really need them. I had never thought of it that way until she told me that last year...in her view, if one job is enough to support and take care of one's needs , no need for a 2nd job but if one job isnt enough then there is justification for the 2nd job.

I am not sure if I agree with her view. If getting a 2nd job helps to pay off debts faster, I would go for it which is why I work during the summer at the public schools when I dont need to. I dont want to be in bad debt for the rest of my life.

If she got a lot of debts, it means her first job was not enough.

I dont know how much debt she has...I have lots so I need that 2nd job! Unfortunately, I dont have the time for it due to family obligations...maybe later when the kids are older.

Me too. Debt I mean because I got sick. And so don't have the energy.

Your mom has an interesting way of looking at this, but I agree with you that I would work more to pay off the debt. Sometimes I start to feel a little guitly about having work but just decide to be very thankful that I have work.

I don't think you should feel guilty. If it's who we should blame, it should be the employer for not paying you enough. The cost of living is slowly increasing and the salary isn't increasing fast enough to meet the cost of living. So, we have to get 2nd and 3rd jobs to make ends meet.

There are CEOs and company presidents that lay people off because they can't afford to pay those people when it's them that make too much money that they could afford to sacrifice a million dollars or two to keep those employees and keep their business running.
