Shoplifters

That's odd. I thought Wal-Mart's new policy stated they would not persecute shoplifters caught stealing less than $25 of merchandise.

Report: Wal-Mart*to charge shoplifters who steal $25 or more - Jul. 13, 2006

Well, it is a good deterrant for potentials shoplifters. I guess I have to give it to Wal-Mart on this one.

What?

My Aussie friend's friend pinched a hairclip for 99c, got caught and fined $500.00 for it at court. Not matter how much it costs, stealing is wrong!!

Well, thats too bad! stealing is against the law and they
will have to face the consquences, heh!
Maybe Wal-Mart changed their policies! Good for them!
Maybe they got tired of people stealin their stuff all
the time, it costs them money when people steal their
stuff, geez!
I saw that on TV, i say good! that will teach them not
to steal, it causes them embarrassment, so what? hahahaha!

Yes and No.

It should vary... depending on the severity of the theft. If it was an expensive item, yes. If it was a cheap item, no.

Well, it is cheaper to punish with sandwich board than having them spend 6 months in jail because we have to pay somebody to watch 24 hours a day, feed them, bathe them, telling them what the F to do. This idea, the only price is one person watching this humilated sucker standing all day, and yet this sucker have to go home and feed themself without taxpayers expenses.

There's an easy solution... don't steal.

Nah, I don't even consider it as cruel punishment, It'll make them think twice about shoplifting again.

No, I don't think it's cruel. I think it's appropriate... better than having them go to court and say "No, Judge, I wouldn't do it again", pay up, and have it be that.. they need to learn that shoplifting is a crime.

Yes it's same here in Germany as well. I am for it...

Penatly fine with no chance because you know steal is wrong and read supermarket's warning signal plus ban from go shop (depend owner's decision on how long ban).

Well, I was used to do the shoplift when I was 14.

I stole 3 video games, and got caught at the city bus stop. Then I lie to the police, and got fine for lying.

They almost fined me $250 but luckily I do the community service instead.

And that was the same day I lied to my mom that I was sick so I can skip the school. My mom hate me whole the day at that day.

Now I know stealing is just WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!!!

My daughters read this and saying "Are you serious?"

I agreed with their talks about it, it encourages people to pinch ANYTHING as long it is under $25!!!!!!!!!! What a big JOKE!!!

Also it will teach them practice makes perfect to become a PROFESSIONAL THIEF in the long run.

S T U P I D!!!!

Yes I second that.

It should be from 0.01 cent, not from $25.

Line them up, and shoot every other one. :D

Just kidding!

why should I be paying for someone to help themselves to less than $25 bucks? it does add up and it increases the price of the product in the store

You think thats why Walmart is trying to find an excuse to raise prices?
