That hat looks so cute on him!!!!!!! I like that he even got the right color gown for a boy.
 
The poor dog his gentle leader is on way too tight . His nose it all cut up from it. Sorry but I can't help but notice this b/c Finlay wore one all the time.
This is great the dog can be with the girl.

What is gentle leader? I don't see cuts anywhere on the dog.

The black band around the dog's nose , that is a gentle leader and it's on too tight . It should be not cutting into nose like . Once that it taken off the dog there is going to be a mark on his nose.

Guardian Gear Head Collar for Dogs | PetFoodDirect



It should be on like the dog in this photo , the fur on it nose is laying flat ,
the one is the story is digging into the dog nose.


The one I posted is called a guardian-gear-head-collar but it's the same thing as a gentle leader ,difference companies call it difference names.


"Hold the Guardian Gear Head Collar for Dogs by the noseband, the Guardian Gear Head Collar for Dogs will assume the shape of the dog’s head, with the two rings under the chin
The collar section is adjustable using the slide. When the buckle is securely closed it should accurately fit the dog’s neck (a two-finger slackness is the best guide)
Double check where the noseband is naturally sitting. It should be down the nose and away from the eyes
Release pressure on the chain strap. The dog should be able to fully open his/her mouth without restriction "



You should be able to put 2 fingers under it , there is no room to do that on the dog in the story.
 
I'm happy for the high school student, it's an achievement she should be proud of - I get that:D

Though -from looking at the first picture in the story, I do agree with WDYS! that Walton's headgear seems too tight and I guess I do wonder if he was too hot with all gown/cap stuff, in addition to the lights of the auditorium and all the people....nothing to be done about the room arrangements but I do wonder about him wearing the "clothes" - he's panting several shots and some of that is just - dogs pant - but some of that could be stress <panting is also a stress behavior> and some of it could be heat. Goldens are not a shot-coated breed.
To what degree is this too much for the dog, I wonder?
