Genene Jones, the former pediatric nurse who is said to have killed around 60 babies in the 1970s and 1980s, was up for parole today (denied) and is set to be released no matter what in three years

Jones, who is known as the “Angel of Death”, killed what’s believed to be as many as 60 babies by giving them an overdose of various muscle relaxers and medications. Jones was initially convicted of 15-month-old Chelsea McClellan’s murder in 1985 and sentenced to 99 years in jail, but not long after, she was sentenced to an additional 60 years in prison for killing another baby with heparin, a blood thinner.

Jones has reportedly applied for parole 12 times since going to jail, but she’s so far been denied each time. She was denied parole again today, but that means little seeing as the serial killer is set for a mandatory release in 2017. The mandatory release is due to overcrowding laws in Texas.

“She's probably going to be the first serial killer in this country's history to be legally released,” said Houston crime-victim advocate Andy Kahan, according to USA Today.

Despite the chance at parole and the eventual mandatory release, prosecutors are working to try and have Jones convicted of other possible crimes so that the mandatory release will be overturned and she will spend the rest of her life in jail.

“This is an individual who should never be out of prison,” District Attorney Susan Reed said.

The parole board will decide whether or not to grant Jones parole next week.

That's the dumbest thing I have heard about Texas.

I have an idea to stop overcrowding prisons. How about only putting "real" criminals in prison? Not people a Judge simply "didn't like".

Also, California has mandatory release due to overcrowding state prison.
Whoa...in 2017, Texas plans to release a first-degree murderer who is supposed to die in prison (sentenced to 159 years in prison). Why don't they release criminals (not murderers) like robbers, drug dealers, etc?

California releases murderers because of overcrowded? I doubt it.

There was a judge like that in Boston ,he was a Black judge and one of his parent was Irish and he hardly found a Black man 'Not Guilty ', . I believe he was taken off the bench .

I hope to HELL this bitch is not release from jail . I thought TX had the death sentence if they do I wonder why the monster did not get it.

Yeah, repeal marijuana prohibition too. Why throw somebody in jail just because they smoked weeds and mind their own business?

Yes, they do. Problem with the death penalty is that the Supreme Court suspended it in 1976, so the prosecutors couldn't use that even if it were applicable in this case. The death penalty resumed in 1977, but executions didn't resume until the 1980's, when Oklahoma first used lethal injection.

A judge release a convicted murder b/c he was sexual abuse as child , his lawyer said this cause him to sexual a woman and kill her . What a crock of crap! The judge actually brought this crap. it look like the judge ruled with her emotion and not her brain.
Wow, I learn more about Texas flawed justice system. I know how the family of the dead victim feels. "Hey, wait a minute, he killed my mom and he's free now?"

Not surprised, Texas has creepiest court system.

Yeah , being abused as a child is no excuse to get off for committing a horrible crime. , it's should not be a ticket to get out of jail . Shame on that woman judge to let her emotion get in the way.
