Looking for a way to make a little extra cash and possibly save a life at the same time? Most people already know that you can sell blood, plasma, eggs and sperm for money, but did you know that you could make up to $13,000 a year selling your feces?

According to the Washington Post, a company called OpenBiome has been processing and shipping loads of fecal matter all over the country since 2013.

The frozen fecal matter is given to patients with an infectious bacteria called C. difficile, that causes the patient extreme gastrointestinal distress. Inserting healthy fecal matter into the patient's gut can cure C. difficile though.

Doctors can give the patients the healthy feces through endoscopy, nasal tubes or swallowed capsules, but finding a donor is not as easy as you would think.

Some patients have gotten the help they need through donations from family and friends. Such is the case of a friend of one of the OpenBiome founders, inspiring the first nationwide bank.

Since opening, OpenBiome has shipped nearly 2,000 treatments to 185 hospitals.

The company does pay donors for their healthy feces: $40 per sample and they even give a $50 bonus if you come in five days a week. That comes out to be $250 a week or $13,000 a year.

So what's the catch?

It's not just your feces that has to be healthy, but you have to be really healthy as well.

The screening process for donors costs $5,000 and includes extensive medical questioning and stool testing.

According the OpenBiome's co-founder Mark Smith, only four percent of every 1,000 potential donors will make it through the screening process.
