Depends which ones you join, the general of them suck, the private groups are very knowledgeable and very personable ( not assholes like the general groups ) so the private groups are very selective ) especially the CI groups. I have made many friends  and been invited to other private groups as well. The groups that are negative I leave and avoid as well as the other members that dont like the attitudes.... there are some good and bad in both private and general groups, just have to weed them out.
