Originally, I learned all the "old" ASL signs for the names of countries. Since then, I've learned many of the new ones. Now, even some of the "new" country name signs are passing by. I try to keep up but they don't always come into conversation, so I'm sure I'm missing quite a few recent changes.

Here's my first question (two-part):

1. What is the current ASL sign for Ireland?

2. What is the indigenous sign for Ireland? Are there different signs for Ireland depending on which part one is referring? ISL vs. BSL?

No more POTATO, please. :)

In BSL there two signs for Ireland.

1) This sign mainly used for Ireland. Ireland Sign

2) This sign are used but not as much as 1st one based on my experience of Deaf people and interpreters I know and it is mainly in conversation instead of professional places. And it mostly used in as in 'Irish' Ireland Sign I cannot get direct link to that sign, just type in 'Ireland' and click on British Flag.

:ty:

1) Not able to view yet. The page said I was missing a plug in. I clicked the link to get Quicktime. I successfully downloaded it but it still says "missing plug in." I'll have to work on that. :(

2) That link worked fine. :) Very cool!

Thanks so much!

I liked the web sites also.

The second site tells you what a sign is in anywhere from one to about a dozen countries which are identified by their flags. I needed help identifying the flags though -- this site helped:

Flag Identifier - Identify a Flag -

You just click on buttons that describe the flags characteristics like stripes, colors, symbols, etc and after a few clicks it tells you what country it belongs to. Very cool.

Strange. I used IE9, it worked fine. Just tried Firefox, it was bit buggy, not working too well but just about.

I switched computers, and I can see the video now.

That's the old ASL "potato" Ireland sign. I was expecting something newer. Oh, well. If deaf people in Ireland are happy with that, then I am, too. :)

Interesting. Didn't know that ASL old sign for Ireland is same as BSL.
