Hey,
I'm not deaf, but am considering studying both ASL and Physics in order to be a science teacher for the deaf. Is there a big need for this kind of thing?

You can't go wrong with learning ASL regardless. If you want to teach physics, I would definitely check around for the specific needs at deaf schools for physics teachers. I just came across this this site which might be good for you to join Deaf Education Association | LinkedIn

There was a school near where I grew up was where dhh were educated along with hearing, and the school was set up for the dhh in every capacity. A school like that would love to have a teacher who was fluent in ASL, that way it would be easy to teach both hearing and d/Deaf. However, there is more to teaching the d/Deaf than just knowing ASL. Besides learning Deaf culture, you would do well to take classes on Deaf education.
