Are there other D/HOH scholarships available other than the A.G. Bell Scholarship? I'm asking as the A.G. Bell group pushes for completely oral mainstream education for all D/HOH students. I went through this and it was miserable.

I've thought about applying for the scholarship just to get financial help for school, but at the same time, I can't agree with their stance on educating the D/HOH.

I'm also a non-traditional student that is low-income so I plan on applying for boo-coos of grants and scholarships along with student loans. I may be in debt up to my eyeballs when I finish but, by golly I'll have my education and a nice piece of paper in my hand to prove it! :cool2:

Many schools have lists of their scholarships and bursaries. Some of them give preference to visible minorities or students with special needs. Check the website or financial aid office of your school.

Deaf residents in Texas often are approved to have FREE tuition at most schools in Texas...it's an option to consider...

Yes, Texas is an option to consider, but it would cost me an arm and a leg to move down there, plus I would have to live there for a year before being considered a 'resident'.

Not only that, ATU is notorious for not allowing certain credits to transfer out and not allowing some credits to transfer in. I'm not sure how this would work if I were trying to transfer credits out to a State school in Texas.

you do realize that you will be forever stuck in where you are now? Many people took this risk including deafbajagal - they just packed up and left for good. and they managed to do just fine. You just gotta get a gut to do it.

Many schools are like that. It's typical.

OMG YES Dixie! I think you should try to move to go to Gally or NTID or a school that has a strong dhh population. It's SO worth it........it's pretty much a ticket to the Deaf culture! You won't get a simliar experiance at a school with just ASL and a handful of dhh students.

I have to agree with Jiro. Just taking the risk to move out for a better life is definitley worth it. I did it when I moved my whole family to Maryland. Yes, it was rough.

Free school at Texas is a great opportunity.

Yea i am with jiro and shel. Sometimes, taking a risk is a good thing about growing, learning and experiencing the reality and will make the better choice evenutally.

Good Luck.

Well moving across the country in a bad economy just doesn't sound like a good idea. But then again I admit I'm a total wimp. :(

1. bad economy
2. $$$$ to move
3. etc.

stop trying to find another reason to shoot down your motivation to get a totally new life. I dunno how much more of this abuse & anguish must you take from your dad :(
