I know that for a lot of people, the fact that you have a small scar behind your ear from CI surgery is one of the big reasons not to get one. I'm probably the least vain person you'll ever know, so the prospect of a little scar vs hearing was a no-brainer for me. However since I have noticed this theme coming up on occasion I thought I'd take a picture of my scar! (Which, I tell you, WAS NOT EASY!!! Ever try holding a camera to something behind your head and hoping you had it positioned correctly? Took about 10 tries!)

I was implanted January 24, 2005 so this is 3 years after - all you can see is a tiny silver line.

You're kidding me?!?! A little scar preventing one from getting a CI?

That has gotta be the lamest excuse I have heard for not getting a CI. It never crossed my mind as an issue. I can think of other more valid reasons for not getting one but certainly not a scar.

Wow, who would have thought it....

BTW - Your scar is hardly noticeable.

The only reason I see that anyone would even notice the scar would be in class where there is someone right behind you or in a line somewhere. Some of my friends from school had very noticeable scars running through the center of their hair and no one had a problem with it. Don't even notice it anymore after seeing it a few times.

I must say I agree with you on this one.

I have two scars on my head. One of them is just over my right eyebrow is from a bicycle accident when I was five and my other scar is from my CI surgery. Most people do not notice my scar above my right eye except when it get very hot and then it will become noticeable.

My CI scar is not noticeable at all and you'd have to look closely to see it as my CI processor hides it well and even when it's off my ear no one notices it at all.

My scar on both ears is similar to yours, Neecy. I've never had anyone comment on it or notice it. I think the CI scars from several years ago were more noticeable though as they were longer incisions. However, surgical techniques have become more refined as time goes on.

Drew's scar is pretty noticeable, but I just tell him "chicks dig scars". Most people seem to like it, actually.

Here's a pic:

Those people are probably referring to the older CI surgeries.

I've seen some people who have huge scars over their ears from CI surgeries.

Nowadays, they have improved on the procedure and now leave small scars compared to back then.

I can see your point. Having said that, it behooves people to not judge something based upon the past, but rather find out what is happening today. Things are always changing and new procedures are be developed to have less impact on one's life.

My CI scar is probably the most hidden scar of my whole body. I have 13 scars from a dog attack (both arms, hand, hips, and back), one very small scar under my right eye from my cat scratching me, a nice looking scar above my right eyebrow from bumping into a sharp table when i was a kid, two burn scars from Hot Glue gun (when your mom says the hot glue is HOT...you better listen), and a small scar from a stupid clotting test that I had done before wisdom teeth removal.

So yeah, my battle scars. The CI scar is the least obvious...but strangely, when people know that I have a CI, they ask me, "Let me see the scar!" They could care less about the dog attack scars.

Strange things , people, never know what will turn them on hey, must be the thought of a "hole in the head" :giggle: Its not yet 2 weeks since my surgery so scar is still raised and pink. However the thought of scar never entered my head when contemplating CI, after all the hair soon grows back and its never seen again. The first time I washed may hair after surgery I got out the shower and felt a bit wonky, instant thought was, "jeez I've sprung a leak and got water on the brain"

I have quite a few scars from growing up. I cut my head 3 times (2 times at 1 month apart), my chin once, my ankle once, my knee once, my chest once, my leg once, my hand once, and my arm a few times. Now, I have scars all over the place. Most of them aren't noticeable because they were clean cuts. The ones that are obvious are because they were nasty cuts.
