Nice video. I realize the budget/funding problems, but I haven't heard of any schools closing. Is there something going on that I don't know about?

There are other Deaf schools that weren't on the blog. For instance, the New York school for the Deaf (all 7, I believe) and Wisconsin school for the Deaf.

Tragic.

Wow. I haven't had a chance to really check out the link. Does this mean that some states will not have a School for the Deaf?

CSign, Utah Schools may be closing if I recall correctly. Then again Utah Schools seems to be VERY small. South Dakota has been replaced with outreach programming (which SUCKS) Also, Idaho School is going to be replaced with outreach programming.
They might be closing Wisconsin School?!?! That really sucks!!!!!! Seriously....maybe they should just cut the extra stuff for mainstream schools ....like sports programs or other stupid stuff like that.

There are already a bunch of states that don't......Wyoming, Nevada, and NH.
It's just so freaking SAD. Deaf Schools are a really good and VERY underutilized resource. I strongly believe if parents knew about them, like how good they are, there would be a lot more utilization of them. I really think a lot of parents would be amazed at the quality of the services and stuff.....Like it is good that little kids no longer have to go off to school and it's good that deaf schools aren't the only educational option...but still......I bet if a lot of the kids who are mainstreamed and just doggy paddling there, were transferred to Deaf School or even Clarke, they would do SO much better!

Well sports are important, but I agree that they need to figure something out. That's literally nauseating to think that there are states that will be without appropriate learning environments for deaf children. When I have more time I'll look at the link. How depressing.

It's like they are telling a whole group of people that there education isn't important. Maybe I'm reading into it too much, but that really makes me mad. A mainstream environment for a profoundly deaf child is not necessarily the LRE.

And not just profound kids....even hoh kids aren't always served well in the mainstream.
