Both dogs look like Labs. I've had Labs. They're very sturdy dogs. If it bothered them though, they'd get up and walk away.

yeah I had a doberman and i did stand on him. He dislikes it. :D

I've seen this on FB and people commenting both 'for' and 'against'. Some say that with the Ellen one the child is a LOT smaller and the dog a LOT bigger than the Palin pair and from what little I know I don't even think the "Ellen pic" is even Ellen's- just one she found and posted?

Either way neither (Sarah's or Ellen's pic) doesn't seem right to me. The dog may not look like he 'minds' or cares but long term the poor dog may still be hurt down the road. The fact that Trig (age 6) is developmentally disabled doesn't give Sarah Palin a pass either. Rather than picking up the camera and snapping a 'cute' pic she should have taught him that's not the way to problem solve how to reach something.

I haven't seen any responses from the organization that Palin claims is connected to the dog they adopted.

I can remember riding my great uncle's Collie when I was very small. The dog was quite indulgent and didn't mind pretending to be my pony.

I think Lab personalities are more laid back than doberman personalities. Labs are like, "whatever" (unless you yell "squirrel!").

It does not look like the dog can get up and walk away. He has his head and seen to be trying to get away. If the dog did not mind he would had just laid there and who how the poor dog is. Sarah is not for animals rights away so her kids so will no respect for animals either .

Believe me, Labs are very strong, and if that dog wanted to get up, it could.

So far i ve witnessed Lab and other many kind of dogs that lab dogs can handle small kids. I am surprised. I did see that Lab got enough with small kid and just stood up and walk away. lol

lovely dog he just get up if cross.the person taking pic must been confident..don't think I let child stand on rottweiler or pit though

Depends on the dog. In younger days we had a pitbull /(Great Dane?) the vet wasn't really certain of the mix , just something gigantic.

We had rescued her from a family that was trying to make a fighting dog of her.

She loved children, and the neighbors grandchildren who were much younger than our kids, played with her all the time , climbing on her, pulling her ears and tail, and she would actually go to their fence to seek them out.

it misnomer about pits being savage they good friendly dogs all come down to owners.
A pit/Great Dane That interesting cross. There was case of dachshund andGreat Dane cross some years ago I would love seen those pups long and tall, the little dash got quicki when GD was asleep was colom title

You see what ever a Republican does something the Media makes a big deal about it. But when Democrats do something wrong and immorial media looks the other way just like Ellen Degeneres kid stands on dog.

I think bit cruel

I really doubt the dog has any rights in that house . We do not know if the dog has any health issues , I would not let a kid that big stand on a dog back . That is animal abuse to me , I don't care how strong the dog is.

I did not know that the former Governor Sarah Palin was taking the photo of her son standing on top of the poor dog. That shock me.

Here is the statement about the photo.

Last week, Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin saw her 6-year-old son, Trig, standing on the back of his service dog Jill while trying to use the black lab as a stepping stool.

It could have been a valuable opportunity to educate Trig on how to behave around animals. Instead, Palin decided to take photos and post them on social media. When animals lovers of all stripes called foul, Palin brushed off their concerns completely.

This is not how a service dog -- or any dog -- should be treated!

As it turns out, the dog in question was provided to the Palin family by the Puppy Jake Foundation. The official mission of Puppy Jake is to provide therapy dogs to help wounded and traumatized veterans.

While the Palin family may well qualify for a service dog due to Trig's disabilities, was the family given no training about how to treat their animal? Do they not understand that standing on a dog's back could break her spine? And is Puppy Jake Foundation making the needed follow up visits to ensure that their animals are well treated?

The Puppy Jake Foundation runs on public donations. And most of all, Jill the service dog has the right to a long and happy life.

ahh Sarha the Governor yes her of all people be careful set example, the media will crucify her
