Hello folks,

What do you think of Verizon's Samsung Omnia? Will that phone be able to recieve signmail from SVRS? I played with demo version in store and find that aside keyboard's size, its seems to be better than Blackberry Storm.

Thanks.

Yes, Samsung Omnia s WMV (Windows Media Video0 format can be working to receive Signmail vlog. Similar to my AT&T Tilt which includes WMV. no problem.

Thanks for the response. I know there is 30 days "test drive" period from Verizon before I decide to keep it.

I have narrowed down to few choices in no particular order from Verizon

1) Samsung Omnia
2) LG Dare
3) Blackberry Storm
4) Blackberry Curve

The primary usage is email, text messaging, AIM (or other kinds if better), internet, ability to view signmail from SVRS.

I am not interested from Tmobile or Sprint or ATT as they do not work reliable where I live/work at (Colorado).

Thanks.

If you will get new HOVRS (Purple) MVP, You may need PurpleMail (Video Mail) to use both MVP and PDA in WMV (Windows Media Video) format.

You able to view PurpleMail in wmv format PDA, cellphone and/or smartphones

Example: Any Windows Mobile OS phones are able to view PurpleMail in .wmv format and so can the Blackberry Storm running OS 4.7.

Currently the Blackberry Bold, T-Mobile G1, Blackberry Curve, iPhone, and the Sidekick cannot view wmv format from my knowledge. The Bold recognizes .wmv format but shows a black screen whilst playing a PurpleMail message which shows it is incompatible.

Update to OMNIA

Alright, Its been weeks since I first bought it from Verizon.

Good:
1) Verizon connection rocks! Even better than Sprint in the rocky mountains where I live. Even in the "dark canyons" it works quite well. For me, that is a big PLUS. I hate Tmobile here. I work in mining industry and it works in deep pit where only 2 way radios works.

2)Omnia (the phone) works well and fast.

3) WM works well (Sorenson signmail etc...) Very clear.

4) Camera is 5.0 MP - good enough especially for a phone.

5) touch typing works well with my fat thumb actually that I did not use the supplied stylus much anymore.

The Bad:
1) Its Window Mobile 6.1 - has some bugs in it. Not great but I knew that.
2) No Verizon email - you have to sign up as email client for 3rd party. I used Google (Dont use Yahoo because they charge extra just to send email from elsewhere). But it works well. Minimum checks is every 5 min. That is a bummer though.
3) when I sent email and it failed several times and I had to hunt down a fix for that and found MS KB out for this fix and installed it and viola! Email STMP is working properly. It was not documented and not publicly known by Verizon. Hell, my tech support at Verizon asked me where I find that KB. Damn Win Mobile. :slap:
4) AIM sucks - you can't use a relay calls through AIM because its too slow. I will have to find alternatives. But then again, I don't use relay calls on cell much anyways.
5) The automatic screen flipper eats battery so I turned it off.

The long and short of this... If there is update on OS system by Verizon (or Microsuck), this phone would be way better than iPhone. But I dont have iPhone because ATT fares poorly also in reception here as well.

I guess I need to spend more time on the phone and playing in-outs of the whole thing to make it better (hope not as bad as Tim Allen).

What are you saying that Omnia works with VP some how?

My hubby got the Omnia in December and loves it. I am not fond of it cause I can not hear if I talk to my parents or hubby, to staticy. He had the Storm for 30 days and down right hates it. Switched to Curve and had nothing but problems with it so they allowed him to have the Omnia.

What other phones work with VP or something like that.

I was looking at getting either the LG Voyager or LG Versa.

Verizon Rox, I have Verizon cell phone only for emergency or call family members. But I have Sidekick through T-Mobile, will be getting rid of that when I upgrade my phone and move my phone plan from my parents family plan to my hubby's family plan.

Only reason I am on my parents is that they wanted me to have a phone 2.5 years ago for emergency. My hubby only had Cricket then only 1 phone.
