Hi y'all my name is Chelsea and I'm working/going to school out in Philadelphia. I was born hearing and had a progressive hearing loss beginning since I was about 4. I've been completely Deaf since I was 16 or so. Simply put, I'm oral Deaf and learning to sign. I have FINALLY met two extremely smart Deaf adults who have helped shine a new light on Deaf culture. Now I'm itching to find other like minded deafies that are intelligent and opinionated (but not a militist). I, like many others, have truly struggled but I am so luck to be part of both worlds.

As a friend of mine said to me last night, Deafness follows you wherever you go, unlike other cultures you cannot leave it or deny that it is part of who you are.

Cheers. Hope to hear from y'all soon.

Well said on the part of your friend. Although in some cases deafness itself can be left behind, the lessons learned from deafness can not.
 Welcome to alldeaf.
