All I know about the "inside" is from talking to a few ex-cons and cons...I'm no expert here....have visited some that were incarnated...saw the line of "red jumpsuits" which scared the death out of me (death row)....I've also seen the toll it takes upon prisoners....Also had one con talking about a deafie...who was incarnated...so I encouraged him to become friends....
Have read many articles about deafies in prison and the hardship they face....lack of accommodations, etc.
Also had an ex-con beat the crap out of me playing Scrabble...
...they have "time on their hands" to study and read...Mainly, cons don't want to talk about the "inside"....but when they do open up....it's not pleasant....
