Hiya,

I created a Sci-Fi Forum last year, and this year I expanded it to include general movies, games and books plus more. It still has a very sci-fi focus with a matching theme (I hope). I didn't make the Ultimate Sci-Fi image though (a friend did) but I made the background and the colours. If you want to see the original Ultimate Sci-Fi image I made, I can put it up for you to view.

I would like some constructive criticism only, and any suggestions as well. Iv'e removed the hacks that were there before because of browser viewing problems. Any problems, pls PM me. I've made a suggestions and introductions board as well as the rest. Feel free to view it at http://ziusudra.conforums.com

I need more members to join as well to expand it more. :)

This looks a lot better. However, there's one problem... it looks a bit too dark. Yes, I can see the dark green lines everywhere... but the posts are hardly isolated. In this forum, you can scroll down quickly and still see how each post is separated from each other. In your forum, it looks like one long page without "splits". Other than that, the website looks great. :thumb:

Yeah, it looks great -- just give her time to get it all sorted out. :D I'm registered there and have been for a while, smile! It's quite a nice site. :thumb:

Thanks guys for your opinions. :) Vampyrox, I would make the board categories all separate but that involves adding a hack to the board and it might not be viewable in all browsers including mine (hacks cause it to crash badly.) But I'll have a look see at the hacks for that.

I've finally gotten around to changing the scheme colours and would like to know what you guys think. :)

Wow, the color scheme is a big improvement.

Here's a suggestion:

Keep all member stats in at a fixed width. I'm referring to the posts. Each post has the name, rank, etc... for each member. What you have is by percentage instead of a fixed number. Whenever someone resizes the page, both post and member width changes. If it was fixed, only the posts would change in width... not the members. Know what I'm saying? :thumb:

Thanks Vampyrox, but unfortunately as I chose a forum that has simple controls, so I can't change those things. :( I know, I didn't look around long enough before choosing a place to host my forum, and I'm stuck with it now.

Hmm... I'm sure that if you knew PHP or CSS, you could find something in there that lets you make it permanent?

You're probably right, it could be done with that I suppose, but unfortunately as I only know a little CSS and practically nothing of PHP... I'll have to study for it. I was thinking of moving my forum to a domain, and making a Sci-Fi page for it, so it'd be similar to the Hyperboreans forum/site. That way, people who are interested in Sci-Fi can read up all about the latest news and things like that, with pictures included. But I'm not sure how to set this up... if anyone knows, help would be appreciated :)

Yes, it's tricky to learn. PHP is online programming so when you attempt to view the source of a PHP file elsewhere, all you get is the HTML code. However, the coding is pretty similar to find so you can simply open a page and view the HTML to find the width. Once you find it, you could find it easier when viewing the PHP files yourself. You could copy your forums to a sub-folder or something... then play around with it. That way, if you make a mistake... it won't affect the real forums.

Oh... well I don't actually have that much control over my forum, I can't copy my forum to a sub-folder, because it's hosted by conforums. Also, I have absolutely no idea about PHP. Thanks anyway though.

I did some changes, separated the categories and fixed up the colours so it should now look a bit smoother and better. Tell me what you think of it now.

The colors are a big improvement. Have you ever thought about creating a couple sub-forums for each main forum? Remember, there's Stargate: SG-1 & Atlantis. There's also Star Trek: The Next Generation, Voyager, Enterprise, & Deep Space Nine. There's more for Star Wars and Farscape too.

Yeah, I'd like that but it isn't possible, however I have asked the main conforums site if they could put that on the boards. I've added some new pictures - feel free to have a look... also if you are interested in affiliating (I link to your site, you link to my site), please PM me :)

Eh? What do you mean you can't do it? I thought it was your message board?

It was a remotely hosted free messageboard... I did not create it. Those forums are mainly for people who are unfamiliar with PHBBB and all that forum code. However, I chose all the colours and all that.

Well, the server has upgraded some features. It now has a calendar and better forum functionality and all that. Oh yeah, the profile list now has a better avatar selection - I added some avatars to the list. Feel free to join and check it all out. :)

I've given it another upgrade. Sorry for bringing up such an old thread, but I wanted to know what people think of the new colours. Also, I'll be designing a site for the forum, anyone got ideas for what I should put on the site? Reviews and such. Thanks :)
