DEAF CINEMATIC FILMBLOG: Telecommunication Relay (VRS, Text Relay, IP) Companies pay for Deaf children's CI

:eek3:

That's when I knew the TUSAMNI is already coming to the Deaf community.

In SOUTH DAKOTA, SD-HB 1158 had appropriated fund with legislature’s approval to use the revenue to pay for Deaf Children's CI. Now more CI programs from nationwide use telecommunication relay companies to help to pay.

Is it right for telecommunication relay companies to use us as Deaf customers in order to collect the revenue and to pay Deaf children's CI?

What about American Sign Language/English programs, Deaf institutions who struggles with financial, and tutor programs for Deaf children who left behind with language? Now more and more states adopt this legislative to allow Telecommunication Relay companies pay for Deaf Babies' cochlear Implants.

South Dakota is not only state that pays for Deaf Babies' Cochlear Implants.

:eek3:What do you think?

This is the ONLY law that I'm aware of that uses STATE RELAY funds for funding UNINSURED children's CI. UN or UNDER insured kids. NOT ALL KIDS in the state.

VRS and IP Relay are NOT used to pay for this. Only 7-1-1 and TTY relay. That's it.

And the writer needs to spell TSUNAMI correctly. It looks like YOU wrote it -- but in reality, Aiden Mack did. Please make sure you say she wrote it so that you don't take credit for her work.

Frankly, the funds would be better put into deaf education. CI is still an elective surgical procedure. Education is mandatory. This just goes to show that the motivation is not to produce individuals that are better able to function optimally, but only on altering the nature of deafness to bring it more in line with hearing values and standards. No better than the soft eugenics proposed by A.G. bell.

Not to mention the CI is not successfull in all cases. How much money is wasted on implants that don't yield the desired results?

What can we do about this. It looks like North Carolina is doing that as well and I am not sure where they take the money from. S753 [Filed]

I think we should get them to do something about scamming via relay so the cost can come down. We should stop this CI funding because we all (hearing and deaf) pay for this surcharges. I don't want my money to go to CI period! If we do both then the surcharges will go down.

No misspellings in this one.

My original posting below did not properly credit its author, Aidan Mack. The entire posting below is written entirely by the author of said link. The only thing I can take credit for is the title and adding emoticons.

I've tried looking for ways to somehow edit the posting and I'm not savy with this programming. Thanks to Dennis for making sure that credit goes to whom it is due.
