Red-light runner struck by Houston commuter train

one question... why??? why why why??? WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY would you do that?????

Looks like the train was able to slow down a little bit. I couldn't read if anyone was injured. Some people are is such a hurry, they think a few seconds really matters.

I saw a guy do this once when I stopped for a train , the idiot when through the arms that where all the way down and I was like WTF! The damn fool was very lucky he beat the oncoming train.

Stupid! I heard that there were children in the van.

are they alive? If so, whats kids status? Maybe mother got panic when their kids needs emergency attention and not thinking of train. OR was it suicide?

Im not sure why she made u-turn back into tracks?

I hate to ask but, was anyone killed in the car? Where did you heard this on line or TV?
I heard it on TV this morning but I noticed that the OP's linked story does mention there were two adults and two children in the van, and it gives the driver's name and the charges. No one was killed but the passengers in the van were hurt; how much, I don't know.

it's in the article...

That train smashed the vehicle, but remarkably everyone inside the SUV survived.

Two adults and two children were taken to the hospital.

Police said they will cite the vehicle's driver, Raunel Arreola-Moreno, for running a red light and for going around the crossing gates.

Waiting a couple of mins or so would save your life instead of no patience and risking your life to go around the gate and getting hit by trains. There's too many moron drivers out there that puts other people's lives at risk.

The driver is lucky it is a light rail... if it's a much heavier freight train, that would make the situation much worse.

what stupid thing to do....that poor train driver,in many case's it finish poor driver his nerves torn to shreds let alone children involved

Average speeds for both light and heavy rail lines. The light rail systems all
show average speeds of less than 20 mph. Heavy rail lines, on the other hand, all show average speeds greater than 20 mph. The average for all heavy rail system is 30 mph.

Light rail lines must stop and slow at traffic lights. No RR crossing lights

Heavy rail lines should be all of RR crossing lights.

Houston rapid is heavy rail lines.

Train Collides with Metro Bus Crash in Houston last February 2010. no RR crossing lights. I think that city had ordered be installed all of RR crossing lights on rapid lines. Right?
