Actually, all Universal DVDs are provided with subtitles. But they are just as detailed as if they were the same as captions.

Yes, that really depends how they use the subtitles, it don't look good sometimes.

But the movie was pretty decent though, not the greatest movie... but decent.

Do you watch movies with black bars in them?

If not, then you're watching them incorrectly. Your DVD player may be setted on 16X9... set it to be 4:3 instead.

You're talking about Wide Screen?

Of course, I am...

But you know how some people don't understand movies.

Please don't take him seriously. There is no way if someone would understand if you do know what he was talking about. What if you didn't know what WS meant? :shrugs:

Banjo didn't say that to make you look stupid..maybe there's someone else who can read this thread and would finally understand what a WideScreen means. That is why everyone else has capabilities to learn. :D

Exactly, 2 years ago.... most people didn't know what widescreen meant.

Seriously!

Just ask the folks at any video rental stores, they get a lot of complaints about the black bars.

For example... Ballbusters... I meant Blockbuster. They tried to change their whole DVD library to full-frame formats before because of the countless complaints.

Customers can be so uneducated on movie formats these days.

But they were hit with THOUSANDS of hate mails from people who prefer the widescreen formats. Now, they are going both formats today

But I still think we should stick to the widescreen because it is the correct way of viewing the movies.

Even some TV shows are in widescreen today including Malcolm in the Middle, ER, Jay Leno and more.

I meant, why are we buying 16x9 TVs?

It's going to be the standard (mainstreamed) TV pretty soon since a lot of people are buying them.

GoldenLeaf, I wasn't trying to insult you or anything. I was just trying to keep it simple.

But since you are aware of the meaning, myself...

I prefer to watch movies in widescreen because it is showing us the whole picture most of the time.

With a Full-Frame movie, you are missing half the picture.

Believe it or not.

I can't help it if I'm artistic and prefer to get the most out of movies.

Widescreen, I'll always stick to it.

Well, my tv is not supporting WS. I guess when I get a HDTV...I'll make sure it's gonna to support the WS.

However, GoldenLeaf was talking about how hard it was to read the subtitles on WS movies. I've seen few movies where the text were placed exactly on the border of the bottom black area and the picture above. It was difficult to read. :p

My TV isn't in widescreen either, but I do watch my movies in the widescreen format with the black bars at the top and the bottom.

But I want to get a 16x9 TV someday.

I find it easier to read the subtitles if they have black strokes around text. I understand what you meant on that "placed on the border."

It can be annoying at times, and hard to read. Which is why I prefer captions instead of subtitles due to the black background.

With subtitles, there are no background... which makes it hard to see the text sometimes.

Especially if the text is white.

I own Red Dragon on DVD

Eward Norton and Antony Hopkins were the greatest actors ever in one of the greatest supsense thriller ever.g

I dopnt support Widescreen. I perfer full screen, I dont want to see any widescreen anymore. I am to try carefully to watch which DVD make full screen or widescreen

Sorry, but widescreen is the standard for the DVD market.

It won't go away, because it is the standard. You are MISSING a lot from watching full-screen.

That is a fact, not an opinion.

Here's a suggestion... start watching movies in widescreen all the time. You will get used to it.

Believe it or not.

I'll rather watch full on a regular TV. I don't care if it's compressed.

If I have a wide TV..I'll watch wide screen..or rather..go to the big movies and watch the wide screens. :D

personally, i think widescreen is alot better than full screen because you get to see more of the background and all that in the movie...very similar in theatres...it's just cool that way.
