Hi, everyone! I'm brand new, and this is my first post. To introduce myself, I'm Caroline, and I'm almost twenty. I'm a sophomore at VCU, and I'm majoring in International Relations.

Okay, here's my dilemma.

I was an acting major last year, but I changed majors with the hope that my new major would open the opportunity for me to work with a non-profit organization, or perhaps join the Peace Corps. And though I would still like to do that, I feel like theatre is still in my blood.

Last year, before switching my major, I considered trying to transfer to Gallaudet to join the theatre program. And now I'm considering it again. However, I feel like I would disappoint a lot of people if I did that. It would mean that I'd not only changed my major, but changed schools AND cities. I don't know what to do! Has anyone else been in this situation?

Well, I haven't done this. But you shouldn't adjust to your degree or whatever to please others. You should do what you really want and what is right for you, personally and academically.

Go to Gally for a visit and check out their programs and such. It might help you factor that into your decision or not.

Good luck and go for the stars!

Yeah, what Miss Delectable said. BTW, I grew up in the Far West End section of Richmond, VA. Oh, you're not the only one or even the 100th one by a long shot.

Hi, Caroline: Why would you disappoint a lot of people if you change your major, school, or city? This is your decision, not others. If the new major, school, or city is better, I hope your friends and family are happy and not disappointed.

I changed my major last month. My friends and family thought I did the right thing or didn't care really (not in the bad way). Even if they think I am wrong I don't think they are disappointed but maybe just a little concerned I made the wrong decision. With "disappointed" I think you fail expectations. Why do people have expectations like these for you? I think good expectation are you are happy in school, you try hard, you learn a lot, you do the best you can.
