The St. Louis Rams made a silent statement about the decision by a Ferguson, Mo., grand jury not to indict police officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown, an unarmed 18-year-old, last August.

The decision has sparked protests around the country, but especially in Ferguson, which is just a few miles from the Rams’ Edward Jones Dome in downtown St. Louis. On Sunday, as they ran onto the field to play the Oakland Raiders, Rams players raised their arms in a “hands up, don’t shoot” gesture.

Looks like Mr Goodell will give them all an hefty fine. There are rules players must follow in the NFL. and one of those rules are no political gestures.just like Terrell Suggs got political wearing that gladiator helmet coming out to be introduced. He was fined by Mr Goodell $5,000.

And Remember those 2 black guys wearing black gloves raising fists during the gold medal ceremony in the 68 games in Mexico city as a political protest? The IOC sent them home afterwards.

You just cant do that.

I am sure the guys knew they would get fined for making that statement , they had to felt that was more importance than paying a $5,000 fine . They made millions of dollars so that not a lot of money to some players .

I saw on the news tonight the football players are not in trouble for going the up hand up gesture.

Can the players be held accountable for free speech? Yes and no. The First Amendment protects those players from the government, so the police can't and shouldn't do anything about it. On the other hand, their employer can restrict their speech.

Personally, I disagree with the players. But, clearly, the police are in the wrong on this one.

EDIT: re-wrote my introduction, it was not clear enough.

They can't make a political statement on the field. That's the rule he's referring to. I just read about this an hour or so ago.

they've made no political statement. all they did is put up hands and walk down the field. their gesture is subjective.

Yeah, I know. The Joker seems to think otherwise. The NFL isn't fining them because it was all subjective, and within league rules. Political statements, on the other hand, does carry a hefty fine. This does not fall in that catergory.

The polices has nothing to with this it's the NFL that can fine but according to the news tonight that not going to happen but who know what will happen in a few days.

It is a political statement. The F.O.P is outraged. They want NFL to take action and apology from the team.
