My name's Richard, i'm from near Glasgow, Scotland. Went deaf from meningitis in 1986, recieved a Cochlear Implant in 1990, I apparently have the dubious honour of being the first child in Scotland to recieve a CI. I've never felt like part of a deaf community due to anti-CI sentiments, got tired of being made to feel like an outsider when at the end of the day I probably have a more severe hearing loss than the people excluding me. Hoping these attitudes have changed. Been reading these forums for a while, thought it was time I signed up, so hello!

Hello!

Welcome to All Deaf!!! Ah, It's quite interesting that you're from Scotland which is cool because we do have other members that are from other countries as well. Do make yourself at home and enjoy your time here! ;)

Welcome! I am from the UK originally too but now live in Australia. I got my CI 9 weeks ago.

Most of the people here are lovely and they accept you even if they have personal views that are not favourable toward CIs.

We'd love to hear more about your experiences of being the first child in Scotland to be implanted and how you now feel as an adult. Maybe you could pop along to the CI/hearing aids sub forum on this board?
