Hey guys! I am getting a second new cochlear implant surgery tommorrow. to improve my hearing and I am wondering what, can bialateral benefit for ci users and is there any risks or anything and my neurologist is Dr. Papsin from Sick Kids. I am really worried and afriad because I never actually had a surgery for more than 14 years. I got my ci when I was 3/4 years old. Please help me out! Thanks!

Yeah I know that.... But I was wondering how painful is it after surgery(recovery)

I wouldn't know. I have never had a CI surgery. There are a few who have been implanted later in life here that can help you.

I wouldn't hold high expectations for then 2nd implant if I were you.

LoL! I don't have a CI. However, just from common sense, the only thing you should be thinking about now is getting a good nights rest and making sure you are at the hospital early tomorrow.

Are you still up? Go to bed! LOL!

Like with any surgery or childbirth...it could be extremely painful or not. Depends on one's tolerate for pain. I am sure you will be fine and if it is very very painful, there are meds to help with that.

*no CI here but have experienced surgery and childbirth :D*

Hope all goes well for you tomorrow! Come back and let us know.

ysk1991: I had the surgery on July 12,, 2007-Sunnybrook/Toronto and went home the next day. No much pain at all. I was given medication if required. The stitches were removed in 4 weeks and Implant activated in Aug/07

Good luck tomorrow

Good luck with your surgery! I am bilateral and I found both surgeries to be easy. I had a little dizziness the first week but very little pain. Everyone is different so make sure you have the good stuff (pain meds) ready. Above all just take it easy.

I find that music sounds richer with two implants. I also find it easier to hear in noise with two implants. It is not perfect but better. Just remember it will take time for your brain to adjust to the new implant and it will take practice but I have found it worth the trouble.

Interesting: no response since the operation of a few weeks ago. Almost ready for activation.
