See the picture above. What does it mean? Is the word supposed to be "weird?" "Word?"

This has been bugging me ever since I joined AD...and now I've mustered up the courage to ask this stupid question so that I can finally rest easy.

1. What you say to sound interested or to avoid talking to someone annoying.
2. Used in replacement for "oh" or "really" ; when surprised.
3. Used when something funny was heard.
4. Used when something is phat or really kool.
5. Agreeing with what someone said

good question!!!! I've always wondered! Here's the link. It's so funny...

a: "Yo, I f****d twelve b*****s last night."
b: "Word?" ("You speak the truth?")
a: "Word." ("I speak the truth.")
-----------------------------------------
a: "Man, this sucks."
b: "Word."
-----------------------------------------
a: "I just got a new car!"
b: "Word?"
-----------------------------------------
a: "I'm not gonna take crap from him anymore."
b: "Word!"

Link didn't work for me. Wah!

So, "werd" is supposed to be "word" but that's how hearing people say it - "werd" ??

:werd: <---- That's the one I don't use as there are quite a few variation of meanings with that one so I don't bother. Most other emoticons are more straightforward. :)

Thanks for the link, Bot. So, the first definition is that "werd" means to agree or to acknowledge what that person had said. Well, I learned something new today.

My hearing 19-year old brother uses it when typing emails or chatting on aim so I guess it is a slang thing.

I actually never heard about it until joining AllDeaf. I am getting educated in my old age!

Hey, It's never too late to learn a new thing. ;)

We all learn something new until the day we die. So, it's all good.

Most of the definitions doesn't seem to match the emoticon's face ---> :werd: ... the face seems to be saying "I couldn't care less".

I remember awhile back I had post using that Icon, and I thought it said weird, made a fool out of myself because it look weird(Icon face) yes Ozzie I agree with you.

Yes! I think that is what has gotten me confused...the facial expression doesn't really match the concept of "I agree!" - it looks like its saying "I don't give a ____ (fill in the blank)." Or it is saying "Stupid."

I never use that "werd" emoticon.
:werd: << now it is the first time I used it. :giggle:

next new slang might be 'number', they already have 'when your number is up' but ghettoising all that down to 'number' i dunno.. it might, heck theres gangs in South africa thats works on 'numbers'
just my blab
