Hello everyone,
I am new to this site and was hoping I could find some help to my question. I have a 7 year old who since he was 5 years old has been diagnosed with mild/moderate hearing loss. He and I have been on so many up's and down's with finding a good hearing aid for him. We have tried the Delta by Oticon the Element 8 by Unitron and have had little luck. I do like the Element 8 because it has the built in FM system so he does not have to have an extra boot on his aid but we have had so many problems with it. It constantly has to be taken back to the audiologist for reprogramming. There is always tons of feedback. Does anyone know of a good child friendly aid? Preferably with a built in FM system. Thank you all for taking the time to read this.

Are his ear molds tight? and do they have a vent hole open. I always had to plug the vent hole to stop the feedback, so closing a vent hole 'might' help with feedback issues.

I have the phonak Una which is a good aid and i have a mild/moderate loss as well. It is slim and u can have the slim tube option as well. I use fm too but the attachment for my bte is kinda integrated and not bulky and u can keep it on 24/7 instead of taking it off since it only adds a bit more length to the HA and looks like it is apart of the bte. It is an "entry level" bte so not too expensive either...depending on where u live i guess? My one bte was about 1200-1300 i think including the fm reciever attachment. I attached the link about the una:)Phonak Hearing Systems - Una Overview

I grew up with Phonak. Never had an issue with that particular brand. They only fall apart when you severly abuse them or if they are over 5 years old. Of which shouldn't happen because you should replace hearing aids every 4-5 years. I've had issues with the other brands. So has my brother, who also wears hearing aids.

I don't know if they have a FM system built in but you can always talk to the audiologist. My FM system is wireless. The boot and signal transmitter just attaches to the bottom of the hearing aid. The teacher gets a reciever. He does not have to take off the boot, just leave it on. I do that.

For feedback, make sure the mold is not loose. It should be sealed up pretty nicely. After a while your son won't have feedback, but after a while they will start having feedback. Once this happens you should go get them replaced. Earmolds should be replaced once or twice a year depending on how fast he grows.

Good luck. I hope my advice helps
