So we all know the "milking cow" sign for milk. However I was wondering.........does the sign change if the milk is soy, rice etc? After all that sort of milk isn't obtained from milking a cow.

I suppose if you wanted to get really, really ASL about it you could go into a whole description of the soybean and the liquid that can be made out of it...

...but I don't think I'd ever do that unless someone really didn't understand S-O-Y MILK.

Just spell, "soy" and then sign, "milk" but not as "milking the cow"! Just a couple of stationary squeezes of the hand for, "milk"; not the up and down motion of "milking a cow", please....I might have one! Lol...

I agree. For most circumstances, S-O-Y MILK should be fine. If the Deaf consumer isn't familiar with soy milk and wants an explanation, then go with the whole description, and maybe even adding that it's a substitute for cow's milk.

Heh, heh, this is the same controversy that the American Dairy Association has been fussing about. They don't want the word "milk" used for anything except cow juice.

as lewis black stated....this is no soy milk...its called soy juice.

you know how i know?....there's no soy (breast).

edited for the kiddies.
