Can anyone tell me what state is the best state to live in when you become deaf? I am in Vegas and the economy is bad, there are no jobs and it is getting worse. I am wondering what cities and states offer good jobs and also have services to help people who are profoundly hard or hearing/ deaf. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

It depends on what your background is. Are you German Catholic? Try Ohio. Do you favor KKK? Try the Deep South. Are you trans/LGB? Stay the hell out of there and go where it's safe and more open-minded and inviting.

Job skills may also determine where you go for work. Even your "weather aptitude" will determine where you want to go.

That was a very brief answer, a sliver of what might be a complicated answer because there are a lot of factors. Keep in mind that your SSDI will not adjust to cost-of-living changes from region to region. Not like getting 1050 a month in OK and then moving to CA, expecting to get maybe 1500. It doesn't work that way. Your best bet in stretching your SSDI dollar is living where cost of living is reasonable, like the mid-west (though that is starting to change because of the oil boom - see how it's getting complicated?) and the middle states.

There isn't really a "better" state to live in. The amount of money given for SSI/SSDI is based on their calculations for the cost of living.

If you lived in a state where the average cost of living is high, then you might get more money. If you lived in a state where the average cost of living is low, then you might get less money. It varies.

Well - I know the cost of living is different in Florida and Missouri and I had no change in mine other than a COLA.
