I recently started attending my first sign class with a deaf instructor. He speaks clearly and also signs everything he's saying so you can pick up signs that haven't yet been taught in class. I have mild to moderate hearing loss and wear a hearing aid, but I'm wondering if I'd be more receptive to the signing if I were to not wear it. On the other hand, I don't want to get behind by missing any verbal instruction. Anyone have experience with this?

Is your teacher using a book? My book had illustrations with the word. I could just follow along with the words without having to listen to the teachers.

Yes, we're using Learning American Sign Language by Humphries and Padden.

I also have a mild to moderate hearing loss I am learing to sign on my own with hearing aids, my suggestions are to learn to sign as well as you can but wear your hearing aids the better you hear you will learn better to sign.
