Thinking about setting up a CC Movie...Fireproof or maybe The Cross? Finger foods, snacks, drinks or deserts everyone can bring and we can have the munchies with our movie. Would this be something Chattanooga folks would be interested in? Way to meet new friends, see old friends and enjoy a CC Movie...feedback will determine the establishment of this event...

Do you have a local deaf club in your area? If the place is big enough, that would be a good place to go.

If not, you can always rent a recreation center. I don't know how that works though. :dunno:

Our church is big enough, we use the commons area and can fit about 100 there, if the turnout would be more than that then we would move into the sanctuary and use the big screens to show the movie. Just curious as to the interest. Metropolitan Tabernacle is located off Hwy 153 and Airport/Shepherd Rd, very convenient location to just about everyone in Chattanooga area. Metro Tab is not a Deaf Church but does support Free Sign Language and Interpreted Sermons for the deaf/hoh. Many in the church can communicate with the deaf because of the classes.

How about getting those people's opinion first... and get their feedback.

I'd hate for you to go ahead and set it up only to have too few or too many show up.

Find out who will come. List your options for places. Try to set up a RSVP list. That way, you know what to expect. :thumb:

Where is that located? That place sounds familiar... outside of Rochester?

Rochester? Chattanooga is 1,300 miles give or take a mile from Rochy. I know cause I used to live in both Rochy and Chattanooga before.

First of all it is not set up that is why I posted the question for Chattanooga folks. Second, we do not want to pay for a place, the church will let us use their commons area and we can all bring a snack to share thus the cost of the movie and friendship is relatively low, basically FREE! Funds are tight everywhere and if you have a free place why go looking elsewhere? No preaching or church advertising will be done, we are just using a room in the church, so the only poll I need is if people are interested in a get together.

Last time we did this we had about 45 people and it was great, we watched Facing the Giants and had so much food, drink and fun! Kids even brought blankets and pillows and laid down front, some adults brought their own folding chairs so they didn't have to sit in a "stiff" chair.

Thanks for your reply, but I think I will stick with the churchs free room and see who is interested before setting it up.

Does your church also have a gym? What about outside?

The home owners association in my parent's neighborhood set up a movie night in a huge field next to my parents. They have a huge screen and shows movies from a projector.

If your church already has projectors and a huge screen, then that would be a good idea. I don't know about the weather up there, but it's an idea.

Inside church does sound good since you mentioned 45 came last time.

Ah, my bad. I must have been thinking of another city with a similar spelling. When I drive on I-90 and pick up those toll passes, I thought I remember seeing that city as one of the exits. I figured it wasn't that far. I guess I was thinking of a different city. :dunno:

Chattanooga Tn has some very hot weather, would not want this outside. Plus with the food and drinks, the bugs...and yes, we have a big screen TV, and big screen projectors in the church if we overload the commons area. Like I said, last time we did this we had about 45, comfortably!!! And so much food, it was great. Really just trying to see if anyone would want to set up a date and bring a plate...

Are there very many Chattanooga people here on AD?

CC Movie

I don't know about AD, checking other places too such as Deaf Chat, Silent Lunches, Silent Socials, Sign N Dine, other places I am involved in as well...this is open to any Deaf, Hearing, HOH or students of sign. Mostly just a time to get together, enjoy a movie and meet new people, old friends etc...

Have you advertised the event at Tennessee Temple? They have a terp program at the college, and deaf ministry at the church. They might have contacts for you there.

I am attending TTU this fall, am in touch with many of the students there etc...I have this on other avenues as well for advertising. Thanks for the input
