I'm going to demo the Siemens Pure 700 65db ($3k ea), and the Rexton Revo+ 55db ($1750 ea) first thing 2009, using a receiver mold. Does anyone have any comments on their experience with these models? I'm really concerned with noise reduction in restaurants. My Phonak Savia Art CIC is too weak now, and was worthless in noisy environments.

Thanks,

Mike

Did you know Rexton is Siemens cheap version? Made in Singapore I think.

No experience with your models, but I do have Siemens brand aids and I like them. For what that is worth.

I have Siemens Reflex DSPs. I'm really pleased with them, they have DAI which I use with my IPod and Smartlink radio aid. The directional microphones do help in noisy environments like restaurants.

Thanks, the Audi at Costco told me that Rexton is a Siemens owned company, I think that the Revo+ is probably similar to a Siemens Centra. Gotta compare the two to see if there's enough difference to warrant the extra cost. I'm hoping to get info from users on possible problem areas with each model that I should focus on during my demo.

Mike are you a CIC user? Have you tried more powerful aids? You may find that you can hear better with bigger aids.

I'm moving up from the CIC to a BTE RIC, my loss increased beyond the CIC's capabilities. I only got 1 year of use of the $3200 CIC, so I want to make sure that my next HA is capable of handling some further deterioration of my hearing (fingers crossed that doesn't happen). I just found out that the Revo+ has a 65db gain receiver option like the Pure.

Mike.....unless your loss is quite mild, maybe try a BTE. You may find that you can hear a lot more with a BTE. I have a conductive loss too, and in jr high-high school I wore ITE aids. Thought I could hear with them....turns out I was mostly just lipreading!

Might work for you

Here is my experience with 55dB open-dome:
They did not work. Excessive feedback and distortion. Feedback was reduced by the HA specialist by knocking down the high frequency response, at the expense of fidelity (why you spend so much for these in the first place.) Domes kept coming out.
All this said, the 65dB receiver requires an ear mold (I suppose you already know this.) This situation should eliminate most of the problems I experienced. Watch out though, since these HAs are designed for open-fit use, and a closed-fit (ear mold) will definitely alter the sound quality, maybe to the point that it may never be acceptable to you. Good luck!

I agree. I have a closed fitted mold with a longer fitting for the canal.
